Collier County Code of Laws and Ordinances Section 54-185 (Chapter 54, Litter, Weed and Exotics Control) sets the height standard. On a standard mowable lot, any accumulation of weeds, grass or similar overgrowth exceeding 18 inches is prohibited. Golden Gate Estates and other Estates-zoned parcels get a modified rule: overgrowth over 18 inches is a violation only where it is within 30 feet of a residence, reflecting the larger, semi-rural lots. Code Enforcement handles complaints; the standard does not apply inside the cities of Naples, Marco Island or Everglades City, which have their own codes.
Code Enforcement issues a notice to abate. If uncorrected, the county may mow the lot and assess costs plus fines as a lien against the property.
