Water restrictions in Denton County depend on your water provider, not the county itself. Denton County does not have countywide water restriction authority. Major water providers include the Upper Trinity Regional Water District (serving Lewisville, Flower Mound, Lake Cities), the City of Denton utilities, Mustang Special Utility District, Bolivar Water Supply Corporation, and numerous smaller systems. Most providers follow the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality model drought contingency plan with four stages. Stage 1 typically limits landscape watering to twice per week on designated days. Stage 2 reduces to once per week. Stage 3 prohibits all outdoor watering except by hand-held hose. Stage 4 bans all outdoor use. North Texas has experienced significant drought conditions periodically, and Denton County's rapid growth has increased pressure on water supplies from Lewisville Lake and Ray Roberts Lake.
