Quiet hours in Yuba County, CA — also called the noise ordinance, nighttime noise rules, or residential quiet time — define the hours during which excessive noise is prohibited.
In unincorporated Yuba County, noise is regulated by Yuba County Code Chapter 8.20 (Noise Regulations). The ordinance sets lower limits during nighttime hours of 10:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. and prohibits loud, unnecessary noise that disturbs the peace of a neighborhood.
Yuba County Code Chapter 8.20 is the County's primary noise enforcement tool for unincorporated areas such as Linda, Olivehurst, Plumas Lake, Loma Rica and Brownsville. Section 8.20.140 (Ambient Base Noise Level) establishes tiered limits that drop at night: for single-family residential areas the maximum permitted exterior noise level is 55 dBA from 10:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m., 60 dBA from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., and 65 dBA from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. The County's adopted 2030 General Plan (Goal HS10) reinforces this, treating 10:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. as the protected nighttime period and applying a 10 dBA CNEL penalty to noise during those hours. These County rules apply only in unincorporated territory. The incorporated cities of Marysville and Wheatland enforce their own municipal noise rules; note that Yuba City is in neighboring Sutter County, not Yuba County. Where no specific limit applies, willfully disturbing the peace by loud and unreasonable noise can also be cited under California Penal Code Section 415.
