Nueces County has no vehicle-noise ordinance. Corpus Christi Code § 31-5 makes it unlawful to run a vehicle sound amplifier audible 30 feet or more from the source, and § 31-2 requires a working muffler to prevent loud or explosive exhaust noise.
Texas counties cannot pass local vehicle-noise ordinances. Inside Corpus Christi, Code § 31-5 bans operating a car stereo or amplifier so it is audible at 30 or more feet, or that causes perceptible vibration outside the vehicle. Code § 31-2(4) also declares unmuffled exhaust from cars, motorcycles, and boats a noise nuisance. Statewide, Texas Transportation Code § 547.605 requires every motor vehicle to have a functioning muffler and forbids cutouts or amplifiers that increase exhaust noise—this applies everywhere, including unincorporated Nueces County, and is enforced by the Sheriff and DPS.
Corpus Christi car-audio and exhaust violations are misdemeanors under § 31-8, fined per § 1-6. Statewide muffler violations under Transportation Code § 547.605 are separately citable traffic offenses.
