Tampa follows the Florida Fire Prevention Code (FFPC), which adopts NFPA 1 Fire Code with state amendments. NFPA 1 Section 10.10 (mirroring IFC 308.1.4) prohibits open-flame cooking devices and LP-gas containers over 1 pound on combustible balconies of multi-family buildings without sprinklers. Single-family homes have no container-size limit. Charcoal grills must be 10 feet from buildings.
Tampa Fire Rescue enforces the Florida Fire Prevention Code (FFPC) under Tampa City Code Chapter 14. The current FFPC adopts NFPA 1 Fire Code and NFPA 101 Life Safety Code with Florida-specific amendments under Florida Administrative Code Chapter 69A. NFPA 1 Section 10.10.6 prohibits charcoal and LP-gas cooking devices on or within 10 feet of combustible balconies and within 10 feet of combustible exterior walls of buildings with three or more dwelling units. LP-gas containers over 1 pound (water capacity) are prohibited in such locations unless the building is sprinklered throughout. Single-family detached and duplex homes are exempt from these multi-family limits. Florida Statute 633 establishes the State Fire Marshal's authority. Tampa Fire Rescue Fire Marshal investigates complaints. Aggregate LP-gas storage on residential premises is limited under NFPA 58. Hurricane-season propane handling: secure tanks before tropical storms β fallen tanks are a recurring post-storm hazard. Tampa has no separate city ordinance setting time-of-day BBQ limits.
Fire code violations under Tampa Code Chapter 14 and FFPC carry fines up to $500 per occurrence with daily continuing violations. Multi-family LP-gas violations can result in lease termination and Fire Marshal stop-use orders. Property managers may face fines for failure to enforce balcony rules.
