Pima County Department of Transportation (PCDOT) regulates driveway connections to county-maintained roads in unincorporated areas. Residential driveways must meet minimum width of 12 feet for single-family and 20 feet for shared access. Maximum driveway grade is typically 14% in the Pima County subdivision standards. Sight-distance requirements must be met at the intersection with the public road. In the Catalina Foothills and other hillside areas, the county hillside development zone may impose additional driveway standards related to slope, drainage, and natural area preservation. Driveways must include drainage provisions to prevent stormwater runoff onto public roads. Gravel driveways are permitted in rural unincorporated areas. The county zoning code restricts parking on unpaved areas in front yards within certain zones. Properties accessing state highways or interstates require separate encroachment permits from ADOT.
