Tucson allows residential driveway parking on paved or other approved durable surfaces. Vehicles cannot be parked in front yards on bare dirt or landscaping, and driveways cannot encroach beyond 40 percent of the front yard width in most residential zones under UDC Section 7.4.
The UDC requires driveways to be paved with concrete, asphalt, pavers, or approved stabilized decomposed granite on reinforced base. Parking on unpaved front-yard surfaces is a common code complaint and creates dust enforcement issues under Pima DEQ rules. Driveway curb cuts require a permit from Tucson DOT. Corner lots and flag lots have additional visibility triangle restrictions that prohibit parking within 15 feet of intersections. Commercial vehicles over 1 ton are prohibited from overnight driveway storage in residential zones.
Parking on landscaping or bare dirt is a 100 dollar citation per incident. Unpermitted curb cuts require removal and restoration. Oversized commercial vehicles trigger 250 dollar daily fines until relocated.
