Tucson, AZ Parking Rules: Commercial & Oversized Vehicles (2026)

Tucson City Code Sec. 20-263 makes it unlawful to park any recreational vehicle or any commercial vehicle "on the same block of any street or roadway or right-of-way thereof for any portion of any two (2) consecutive calendar days." The code defines a recreational vehicle in Sec. 20-1(23) as "a motor vehicle or vehicle combination that is designed and customarily used for private pleasure use and includes vehicles commonly called motor homes, pickup trucks with campers, travel trailers, boat trailers, or horse trailers." That sweeps in the typical oversized rig residents try to store on the street rather than in a driveway.

The rule is block-based rather than a fixed hour count: once the vehicle has occupied any portion of two separate calendar days on that block, it is in violation even if it never sat there a full 24 hours. There is one carve-out under Sec. 20-256(h): residents inside an established neighborhood parking permit program who use a commercial vehicle as their personal vehicle may keep it parked on the same block for two or more consecutive days within that program area, regardless of the restriction that would otherwise apply. No equivalent carve-out exists for recreational vehicles.

Violations of this division (Article VII, Division 6, covering "Safety Issues" sections 20-271 et seq.) carry a mandatory base fine of $60.11 under Sec. 20-271, with no part of that fine subject to suspension or waiver by the court, plus any assessments state law imposes on top of it. Enforcement runs through Tucson's Department of Transportation and Mobility together with Tucson City Court citations rather than a separate code-enforcement track.
