Jackson County, MS Parking Rules: EV Charging (2026)

Jackson County regulates residential electric vehicle charger installation through the standard electrical permit process administered by the Planning and Zoning Department. Level 1 chargers (120V, plug-in) generally require no permit, but Level 2 chargers (240V, hardwired) require a dedicated circuit, often 40 to 60 amps, and a pulled electrical permit with inspection. Panel upgrades may be needed in older Pascagoula and Moss Point homes originally built with 100-amp service. Unlike California, Florida, and several other states, Mississippi has not enacted EV-ready building code amendments requiring conduit and panel capacity in new residential construction, so Jackson County relies on standard IRC electrical provisions. Public charging stations must meet ADA accessibility requirements under federal law. Mississippi Power Company offers time-of-use EV rate schedules that can reduce charging costs.
