Travis County adopted the 2015 IRC and IBC which do not require EV-ready wiring for residential construction. No county EV charging mandate exists. Austin Energy serves much of Travis County and offers the Plug-In EVerywhere charging network plus residential rebates up to $1,200. Pedernales Electric Cooperative serves western Travis County.
EV charger installation requires an electrical permit from Travis County Development Services for unincorporated properties β Level 2 chargers ($150 permit typical). Commercial EV stations in recharge zone must meet Chapter 64 spill containment. TX Property Code Β§202.019 prevents HOAs from prohibiting EV charging stations installed at the owner expense.
Unpermitted electrical work: $500 per day plus removal. HOA violations of 202.019: owner may sue for costs and attorney fees.
