Chatham County sets no blanket overnight ban on passenger cars. Motorcoaches, trailer coaches and motor homes may sit on a residential street only when parked less than 24 hours; longer street storage of RVs and trailers is prohibited.
Unincorporated Chatham County does not impose a general overnight parking prohibition on standard cars parked on public streets. Its residential-street restriction (Sec. 12-302) instead targets oversized and recreational vehicles: motorcoaches, trailer coaches and motor homes are allowed on the street only for periods of less than 24 hours, so an RV parked overnight-and-then-some quickly becomes a violation. Commercial vehicles get a narrow exception while actively loading, unloading or doing utility work. Individual cities set their own overnight rules, so Savannah, Tybee Island and Pooler residents should check the municipal code for their address.
Vehicles left in violation face a parking citation; failure to obey the notice carries a fine of $5.00 to $100.00 on conviction (Sec. 12-701).
