Unincorporated San Benito County has no standalone oversized-vehicle parking ordinance. On public roads it relies on Chapter 17.02 and the California Vehicle Code; on private lots, oversized-vehicle and equipment storage is limited by the zoning outdoor-storage rule (Sec. 25.07.015).
San Benito County's published code does not include a specific ordinance setting size or weight thresholds for parking oversized vehicles in residential areas, unlike some larger jurisdictions. On unincorporated public roads, oversized vehicles - large trucks, RVs, trailers and the like - are subject to the general Chapter 17.02 parking and removal rules. Section 17.02.004 lets the Sheriff remove any vehicle left over 72 consecutive hours or in violation of Sections 17.02.001 through 17.02.003, and California Vehicle Code Section 22651 provides additional removal authority for vehicles that obstruct traffic or are parked unlawfully. State law (Vehicle Code) also governs size, weight and load limits on highways. On private residential property, an oversized vehicle stored in open view in a front or street-side yard runs into Section 25.07.015 (Outdoor Storage and Display), which prohibits such yard storage and requires screening. Inoperative oversized vehicles left over 30 days are abatable under Chapter 17.01, Article II. Because the County leans on these general provisions, owners of large vehicles should verify zoning-district limits with the Resource Management Agency.
Oversized vehicles on public roads are removable under Sec. 17.02.004 and California Vehicle Code 22651; oversized-vehicle storage in a residential front/street-side yard is a zoning violation under Sec. 25.07.015; inoperative ones over 30 days are abated under Ch. 17.01.
