Sierra County Code Chapter 11.12 sets parking limits on specific streets in unincorporated communities such as Downieville, Goodyears Bar, Sierra City, and Sierraville. Elsewhere, California Vehicle Code rules control. Violations carry a $25 civil penalty under SCC 11.12.110.
Most roadside parking in unincorporated Sierra County is governed by the California Vehicle Code, but Sierra County Code Chapter 11.12 (Parking Regulations) adds community-specific limits. SCC 11.12.020 sets timed limits in Downieville, including a four-hour limit in the Vilas parking area (lots 23-27) on the north side of Main Street, a two-hour limit on the south side of Main Street along lots 4, 5, and 6, and a 12-hour limit on the north side of River Street. SCC 11.12.025 prohibits parking on both sides of Main Street in Goodyears Bar between Goodyear Creek Street and China Street and along parts of Mountain House Road (County Road S-300). SCC 11.12.035 prohibits parking on the east side of Hayes Road (County Road 555) in Sierra City and limits the State Route 49/Butte Road public lot to one 12-hour period. SCC 11.12.040 prohibits parking within 15 feet of the Route 49/89 intersection corners in Sierraville. State CVC 22500 still bans parking in crosswalks, on sidewalks, in front of driveways, and within 15 feet of fire hydrants countywide.
Parking civil penalties are $25 under SCC 11.12.110 for violations of the California Vehicle Code, California Code of Regulations, Public Resources Code, or Sierra County Code, except where state or federal statute sets the penalty. An unpaid penalty incurs a 50% late penalty if not paid within 10 days of the delinquency notice.
