On unincorporated Mono County roads, on-street parking is primarily governed by the California Vehicle Code, enforced by the Mono County Sheriff and the California Highway Patrol. The County's own code (Title 11 – Vehicles and Traffic) supplements state law on county-maintained roads.
Unincorporated Mono County does not have the dense permit-parking systems found in cities; on county roads the California Vehicle Code (CVC) supplies the baseline rules and Mono County Code Title 11 (Vehicles and Traffic) provides local supplements. Under CVC §22500 it is unlawful to stop, stand, or park within an intersection, on a crosswalk, in front of a public or private driveway (§22500(e)), or on or over a sidewalk (§22500(f)). CVC §22514 prohibits parking within 15 feet of a fire hydrant. CVC §22507 expressly lets local authorities, by ordinance or resolution, prohibit or restrict parking on specified streets — the legal basis for any posted county restrictions, including those tied to winter snow removal. Because much of the county is mountainous Eastern Sierra terrain (June Lake, Bridgeport, Crowley Lake, Walker), parking that obstructs a narrow road, a plow route, or sight lines is the most common enforcement issue. The Mono County Sheriff and CHP handle on-road enforcement; Public Works manages the road network.
Illegally parked vehicles can be cited and, where they obstruct traffic or a hazard exists, removed under CVC §22651(b). Fine amounts are set by the Uniform Bail and Penalty Schedule and the Superior Court of Mono County; towing and storage are billed by the tow operator.
