Selma requires a $20 yard sale permit under SMC 5-17-3 for all residential garage or patio sales. Each household is limited to three sales per year, each lasting up to three consecutive days.
Under Selma Municipal Code Section 5-17-3, a yard sale permit is required before conducting any garage sale, patio sale, or similar sale on residential property. The permit fee is $20 and is nonrefundable. Sales are restricted to personal property owned, used, and maintained by the permit holder or family members in connection with the premises. Each family and location is limited to a maximum of three sales per calendar year, and each sale may last no more than three consecutive days. Nonprofit organizations such as churches, schools, and fraternal groups may conduct sales at their premises with written owner permission and are eligible for a fee waiver with City Manager approval. Signs advertising the sale may not be placed on any public property, public right-of-way, utility pole, fire hydrant, or similar fixture. Applications are processed online through the city OpenGov portal.
Conducting a yard sale without a permit violates SMC 5-17-3. Placing signs on public property, utility poles, or fire hydrants carries a $100 fine. General code violations are infractions with fines up to $100 for a first offense, $200 for a second within one year, and $500 for subsequent violations.
