Selma Municipal Code Section 8-1-2 requires solid waste in approved containers with close-fitting lids, capacity between five and thirty gallons, stored out of public view except on collection day.
Under Selma Municipal Code Section 8-1-2, all residential solid waste must be kept in suitable containers of not less than five gallons and not more than thirty gallons capacity, fitted with a close-fitting lid that must remain closed at all times except when depositing or removing waste. Section 8-1-8 makes solid waste collection service mandatory for every residence and commercial establishment, requiring subscription to the city-contracted hauler Mid Valley Disposal. Containers must not be placed in public view except on the designated collection day. Residents receive three city-issued carts: gray for trash, blue for recyclables, and green for organic waste under SB 1383 compliance. Carts must be placed curbside by 6:00 AM on the scheduled pickup day with lids closed and facing the street, and retrieved the same day after service.
Unauthorized disposal of solid waste or failure to subscribe to mandatory collection service is a violation of the municipal code. First infractions carry fines up to $100, second violations within one year up to $200, and third or subsequent violations up to $500. The city may also pursue misdemeanor charges with fines up to $1,000.
