Amarillo Code Chapter 8-3 (Garbage, Trash and Weeds) requires residents to use city-issued 95-gallon roll carts for solid waste. Carts must be placed at the curb only on collection days and returned to the property by midnight after pickup.
Amarillo Code §§8-3-82 through 8-3-92 govern municipal solid waste collection. Residents must use the city-supplied 95-gallon trash cart; privately owned containers require approval. Carts must be placed at the curbline (not in the street) by 7:00 AM on collection day and removed from the curb within 12 hours after collection. Lids must be kept closed to prevent odors and animal access. Hazardous materials, liquids, and hot ashes are prohibited from carts. Violations are enforced by Code Compliance. Commercial accounts use dumpsters approved by the Solid Waste Division.
Violations under Ch. 8-3 are subject to a fine of up to $500 per occurrence. Repeat offenders may have cart service suspended pending compliance.
