Sarasota County's solid waste code (Sec. 106-58(c)-(d)) requires the owner or occupant of any premises in the unincorporated area to keep it free from all solid waste and recyclable materials not properly stored, whether generated on or off site. Separately, the Property Standards Ordinance defines "Improper Outdoor Storage" to include accumulated wood, tires, automobile parts, trash, appliances, junk, and construction materials that create odors, harbor vermin, or lower neighboring property values. Both are enforced by Code Enforcement through notice and abatement. Household garbage must be set out in county-approved curbside or Class II containers under the mandatory collection program.
