All garbage in North Port must be placed in a City-issued garbage tote. Totes must be stored in the garage, side yard, or back yard - never the front yard - and placed curbside by 7:00 a.m. on collection day with arrows facing the street and 5 feet away from other objects.
Sec. 62-63 (per Ord. 132-19) requires generators to separate recyclable materials and yard waste from other solid waste before disposal. Bulk waste is anything that doesn't fit in the tote with the lid closed, exceeds 200 lbs, or doesn't meet yard waste guidelines. Tote rules require 5-ft clearance from fences, cars, mailboxes, utility poles, and trees so the automated arm can grab the tote. A dirty tote can be replaced; cleaning service is $50.
Improper tote placement, leaving totes at the curb after collection, or storing in the front yard are Code Enforcement violations subject to citation fines up to $250-$500 per offense.
