Fall River, New Bedford, and Taunton require trash/recycling bins be stored out of public view between collection days. Bins placed curbside evening before or morning of pickup and retrieved same day. Overflowing or open-lidded bins violate health code.
Bristol County municipalities require residents to store trash and recycling carts off the front of the property between collection days β behind a fence, in a garage, or on the side/rear of the house screened from the street. Fall River's single-stream recycling program uses blue carts; New Bedford uses gray and green. Bins may be placed at the curb no earlier than the evening before pickup and must be retrieved by the end of pickup day. Lids must be closed to prevent rodent access (105 CMR 480). Overflow, loose trash, and household items outside the cart are not collected and may generate nuisance citations. Commercial dumpsters require screening and a permit. HOAs commonly set stricter bin-storage rules in newer subdivisions.
Bins visible between collections: written warning, then $25 to $100 per occurrence. Overflowing or unsecured bins attracting pests: Board of Health citation, $50 to $300. Commercial dumpster without permit: higher fines.
