Scottsdale regulates the placement and storage of trash bins through its solid waste ordinance (Chapter 24) and property maintenance standards. Bins must be stored out of public view except on collection days. Placement on the street for collection follows specific guidelines.
Scottsdale Solid Waste Services (Chapter 24 of the Revised Code) provides residential collection services. Trash and recycling containers must be stored out of public view when not set out for collection β typically inside the garage, behind a wall, or in a screened enclosure. Containers may be placed curbside for collection the evening before or morning of scheduled pickup and must be returned to storage by the end of collection day. Containers should be placed at the curb with lids closed, handles facing the street, and at least 3 feet from obstacles (mailboxes, vehicles, other containers). Overflowing containers and loose trash around bins are property maintenance violations. Many Scottsdale HOAs have additional container storage requirements in their CC&Rs.
Containers left at the curb outside collection times, overflowing bins, or visible container storage may result in code enforcement warnings and citations.
