Tuolumne County's Hazardous Vegetation Ordinance requires vegetation maintenance on vacant and undeveloped parcels. The ordinance targets fire risk on vacant lots adjacent to roads and driveways throughout the unincorporated county.
Tuolumne County adopted a Hazardous Vegetation Ordinance requiring property owners to maintain vegetation on vacant and undeveloped parcels, going beyond the state PRC Β§4291 mandate that only applies to parcels with structures. The ordinance requires clearing hazardous vegetation on property adjacent to roads, driveways, and road easements. Entire undeveloped parcels or vacant lots not under Williamson Act agricultural contracts must also comply. This was adopted in response to devastating wildfire history (2013 Rim Fire, etc.) and the risk posed by unmaintained vacant lots in wildland-urban interface areas. Weed complaints are referred to CAL FIRE in the State Responsibility Area.
Non-compliance: county abatement with costs billed to owner plus administrative fees, recorded as property lien.
