Oklahoma City, OK Property Maintenance: Vacant Lot Maintenance (2026)

City Code § 35-61 defines "rank weeds" as vegetation over 12 inches tall (with exceptions for tended crops and healthy trees/shrubs), and any weeds that harbor trash, rodents, give off odors, or pose a fire or traffic hazard regardless of height. Section 35-62 declares rank weeds, thickets, and noxious plants (poison ivy, oak, sumac) a nuisance on any lot, tract, or the adjacent street/alley strip. Section 35-63 makes the owner responsible for cutting, removing, or destroying the growth. The Director of Neighborhood Enhancement must give at least 10 days' mailed notice before the City mows and liens the property (§ 35-64), though after a first City mowing, any repeat overgrowth within six months can be summarily abated without further notice (§ 35-67(c)). Agricultural land more than 150 feet from a non-agricultural lot is exempt (§ 35-70).
