Every public and private landowner in unincorporated Jefferson County has a legal duty to manage noxious weeds under the Colorado Noxious Weed Act (CRS 35-5.5). List A weeds must be eradicated countywide; List B are eradicated, contained or suppressed depending on location.
Jeffco Invasive Species administers the Colorado Noxious Weed Act (CRS 35-5.5) in unincorporated areas. The law requires all public and private landowners to manage the noxious weeds on their property so they do not spread to neighboring lands. Jeffco accepts written complaints from adjacent owners for List A and List B weeds on properties one acre or larger that impact natural or agricultural lands, then may pursue enforcement following CRS 35-5.5-108.5 and 109. There is no set 'grass height' inches limit countywide; general tall grass is addressed as a fire-fuel/nuisance issue rather than a fixed height. Cities set their own turf-height rules.
After contact and a management notice, the county may undertake enforcement under CRS 35-5.5-108.5 and 109, which can include county abatement and cost recovery (also backed by CRS 30-15-401 for weed/brush removal liens).
