In unincorporated Lee County, owners, agents, lessees, and occupants must cut and keep grasses and weeds to a height not exceeding 12 inches. If you don't, the county can mow it and assess the cost plus a $150 fee against your property.
Lee County Lot Mowing Ordinance 14-08 requires all property owners, agents, custodians, lessees, and occupants in unincorporated Lee County to 'cut and keep cut, to a height not exceeding 12 inches, all grasses and weeds' on property they own, control, or occupy, including adjoining easements, alleys, and rights-of-way. The county advertises this requirement each April and October. 'Nuisance Vegetation' means grasses and weeds not regularly maintained that exceed 12 inches. Incorporated cities (Fort Myers, Cape Coral, etc.) set their own, often lower, height limits.
After 21 days' mailed notice, the County Manager may cut the vegetation and assess actual cost plus a $150 administrative fee; unpaid amounts become a recorded lien with interest.
