Under City-Parish Code Sec. 12:351, grass and weeds must not reach more than twelve (12) inches and remain at that height for more than two weeks. Fines run $125, $250, then $500. The City can cut and lien the owner. (311 guidance also flags 8-inch overgrowth as a nuisance.)
Sec. 12:351 requires the owner or agent of a property within a recognized subdivision of the City-Parish to keep grass and weeds cut. Enforcement is handled by Code Enforcement (225-389-8680) via 311 complaints. The City-Parish may remove overgrown grass or weeds and levy the cost on the owner through a tax lien or assessment. Exemptions apply to grazing/agricultural land and tracts of two acres or more (except portions within 100 feet of residential zoning). Note: some brla.gov FAQs describe weeds and brush reaching eight inches as a nuisance — the codified enforceable standard is the 12-inch/two-week rule in Sec. 12:351.
$125 first violation; $250 second within two years; $500 third and subsequent within two years, plus city abatement cost via tax lien.
