The Sedgwick County Nuisance Code (Chapter 19) allows grass to be maintained at no more than 18 inches in height on unincorporated property. Overgrowth is a citable nuisance. Kansas noxious-weed law (K.S.A. 2-1314) separately requires owners to eradicate listed noxious weeds.
The county's published compliance guidance states plainly that the Chapter 19 Nuisance Code caps grass at 18 inches in the unincorporated area, a looser standard than the City of Wichita's 12-inch limit. Weeds, rank vegetation, and grass above that height are a nuisance subject to abatement. In addition, K.S.A. 2-1314 imposes a statewide duty to control and eradicate noxious weeds on all land you own or supervise, using methods approved by the Kansas Secretary of Agriculture. County Code Enforcement handles overgrowth complaints; the county weed program handles noxious species.
Grass over 18 inches cited under Chapter 19; county may mow and assess the cost. Noxious-weed non-compliance handled under K.S.A. 2-1314.
