Vermont's Smoking in the Workplace Act and Burlington local rules prohibit smoking in public buildings, restaurants, bars, and within 25 feet of entrances. Burlington bans smoking on Church Street Marketplace and in city parks.
Vermont 18 V.S.A. Β§1421 bars smoking in workplaces, restaurants, bars, lodging common areas, and public buildings, with a 25-foot perimeter from entries. Burlington augments this with smoking bans on Church Street Marketplace, all city parks, the Burlington Bike Path, and city beaches under Parks Department rules. The bans cover combustible tobacco, cannabis, and electronic cigarettes and vaping devices alike. Designated smoking areas in some parking facilities must be at least 25 feet from public entrances.
Civil fines under Vermont law start at $100 for individuals and $300 per workplace violation for owners. Burlington Parks rule violations are civil tickets enforced by Parks staff and Burlington Police.
