Michigan's Smoke-Free Air Law (MCL §333.12601+) bans smoking in indoor workplaces and most bars and restaurants. Wayne County extends this to county park grounds and government building entrances. Several municipalities prohibit smoking near playgrounds and outdoor dining patios.
Michigan's 2010 Smoke-Free Air Law prohibits smoking in workplaces, restaurants, and bars (cigar bars and Detroit casinos exempted). Wayne County Parks bans smoking at all playgrounds and within 25 feet of pavilions, building entries, and pools. Detroit and Dearborn require non-smoking buffers of 25 feet from outdoor dining patios. Vaping is generally treated identically to combustible tobacco. Cannabis smoking in public is prohibited under MCRTMA (MCL §333.27954) regardless of recreational legalization. The DTW Airport designates outdoor smoking zones away from terminal entrances per WCAA rules.
Smoke-Free Air Law violations carry $100 first-offense civil fines escalating to $500 for repeat offenses. Park or playground smoking may add $200 ordinance fines.
