Galveston places no cap on the number of nights or bookings per year. A short-term rental is simply any rental of a dwelling for under 30 consecutive days, and licensed units may operate year-round. Unincorporated county areas have no cap either.
Galveston's STR ordinance (Ord. 25-060) defines a short-term rental as use of a residential dwelling for consideration on a temporary or transient basis for a period less than thirty consecutive days. There is no annual limit on rental nights, no minimum-stay requirement, and no per-year booking cap; a licensed unit may rent continuously. The only continuity note is that an STR nonconformity lapses if the unit is not registered for over 365 consecutive days. Because Texas counties cannot zone, unincorporated Galveston County imposes no night cap on short-term rentals.
No penalty tied to night counts; standard violations (operating unlicensed, unpaid HOT) remain Class C misdemeanors up to $500 per day.
