Cameron County sets no STR parking rule — parking is regulated by cities. On South Padre Island, STR vehicles may not block driveways, fire lanes, hydrants, or traffic, and overnight parking in city-owned lots is no longer allowed.
There is no county STR parking ordinance; unincorporated Cameron County can't zone. Parking is a city matter. On South Padre Island, STR guests must not park on sidewalks, crosswalks, alleys, fire lanes, bike lanes, or unpaved areas, or block driveways, hydrants, intersections, or traffic. Vehicles must stay at least 15 feet from a fire hydrant and 30 feet from a stop sign, signal, or intersection along Gulf or Padre Boulevards. Overnight parking in city-owned lots is prohibited. Operators must inform guests of these parking standards.
On South Padre Island, parking violations at STRs are enforced against the operator and guests; STR-ordinance breaches carry fines up to $2,000 per day, with each day a separate offense.
