Canal Winchester has no STR registration or licensing program. Operators do not file an STR permit with the city. Registration is only required at the county level for lodging tax purposes and with the Ohio Department of Taxation for state income tax.
Unlike Columbus, which requires STR registration through the Department of Public Safety, Canal Winchester has not established a local registry. Operators should still: register for a Canal Winchester municipal income tax account (2 percent on net rental income if active business), register with Fairfield or Franklin County auditor for lodging tax collection, and obtain an Ohio vendor license if selling taxable goods/services beyond lodging. HOAs and deed restrictions may impose private registration requirements that supersede the absence of city rules.
No local registration penalty. County and state tax non-registration can trigger back taxes, interest, and penalties. HOA violations can lead to private enforcement actions and liens.
