Chatham County short-term rental licenses must be renewed every year by July 1. The license has to be posted inside the unit, and a sign listing parking rules, occupancy limits, noise restrictions and emergency contacts must be displayed for guests.
Under §16-1305, each license is renewed annually by July 1; renewal requires re-affirming that ad valorem taxes are paid, hotel/motel taxes are collected and remitted, animals comply with the Animal Control Ordinance, and fire subscription service, a fire extinguisher and weekly trash service remain in place. Owners must keep records supporting tax collection and compliance. The license and required information sign must stay posted (§16-1303). All changes must be reported in writing to BSRS. Savannah requires annual renewal through its STVR portal (initial $300, renewals $150); Tybee requires annual permit renewal plus an occupational tax certificate.
Failure to post the license and sign can bring punishment up to and including revocation of the license (§16-1303(1)(c)).
