Unincorporated Nueces County has no sign ordinance. In Corpus Christi, off-premise garage sale signs are prohibited, three sales are allowed per calendar year, and no signs may be placed in the public right-of-way (Sec. 38-3-9; Sec. 3-1).
Because Texas counties cannot zone, unincorporated Nueces County regulates neither garage sales nor their signs. Corpus Christi does regulate them: city code Section 38-3-9 allows three garage/yard/estate sales per calendar year, each lasting up to three days within two consecutive weeks, and prohibits off-premise signs. Separately, Section 3-1 makes it unlawful to fasten, tack, nail, tie, glue, paste, or maintain any sign in the public right-of-way, including sidewalks, streets, and utility posts. So a directional sign posted on a corner or power pole is illegal in the city; a sign on your own yard advertising your own sale is generally allowed.
Violations are municipal code offenses. Off-premise and right-of-way signs may be removed by the city, and repeated garage-sale violations can bring citations and fines.
