Minneapolis allows temporary garage sale signs on private property with owner consent but prohibits them in the public right-of-way, on utility poles, trees, and traffic structures.
Small temporary signs announcing a garage, yard, or estate sale are permitted on the seller's private property and on other private property with the owner's permission. Signs placed on public boulevards, utility poles, street signs, traffic signals, or city trees are prohibited and subject to removal by Public Works. Signs must not obstruct pedestrian paths or sight lines at intersections. The sign should be removed within 24 hours after the sale ends. Commercial yard-sale directional arrows used repeatedly are treated as off-premise advertising and may require a sign permit.
Signs in the right-of-way are removed without notice. Repeat violators may receive administrative citations. Large or permanently affixed signs require a permit.
