Minneapolis Traffic Code Chapter 478 restricts overnight parking of commercial vehicles in residential areas. Trucks over 12,000 pounds GVW cannot park on residential streets between 10 PM and 6 AM.
Minneapolis Code of Ordinances Chapter 478 (Traffic and Vehicles) prohibits parking commercial vehicles with a gross weight over 12,000 pounds on residential streets between 10:00 PM and 6:00 AM, with exceptions only for active loading or unloading not to exceed two hours. Semi-tractors, box trucks, dump trucks, tow trucks, and construction equipment fall within the restriction. Trailers, campers, and boats cannot be stored on public streets for more than 24 consecutive hours and must move at least one block to reset the clock. On private residential property, the zoning code prohibits storage of commercial vehicles larger than a one-ton pickup in front yards, and rear or side yard storage is limited to one vehicle owned by the property occupant. The Minneapolis Police Traffic Control unit and the Regulatory Services department both enforce these rules, issuing citations that range from $47 for a basic parking violation up to $200 for repeated or oversized-vehicle violations. Impound under Minnesota Statute 168B may follow if the vehicle is tagged and not moved.
Specific penalty amounts for this ordinance are not published in a publicly accessible fine schedule. Contact Minneapolis code enforcement directly for current fines, enforcement procedures, and hearing options.
