Oro Valley allows temporary garage sale signs on private property during the sale. Signs are prohibited in public rights-of-way and on utility poles. HOAs often add restrictions.
The Town of Oro Valley Sign Code permits temporary garage sale signs on the property where the sale is held. Signs may not exceed 6 square feet and must not obstruct pedestrian or vehicle sight lines. Placement of garage sale signs in Town rights-of-way, on median islands, on utility poles, or on traffic signs is prohibited and signs placed in these locations will be removed by Town staff without notice. A-frame or sandwich board signs on sidewalks adjacent to the sale property may be permitted during sale hours only. Most Oro Valley HOAs regulate garage sale signs through architectural guidelines, commonly limiting the number to one or two signs, restricting placement to the front yard only, and requiring removal within 24 hours of the sale ending. Some HOA communities organize community-wide garage sale weekends and restrict individual sales to those dates only.
Signs placed in the public right-of-way are removed by Town staff. Repeated violations may result in code enforcement warnings and fines. HOA violations are addressed through the association's enforcement process.
