Stafford regulates political signs through Chapter 70 of its Code of Ordinances, applying placement, size, and removal standards consistent with Texas Election Code Chapter 259 protections.
Chapter 70 of Stafford's Code of Ordinances governs the display of all signs within the city, including temporary political campaign signs. Political signs may be displayed on private property with the owner's consent, but must comply with size, height, setback, and structural requirements set out in the chapter. Stafford cannot prohibit a political sign on private property if the sign meets state-defined limits, but it can require timely removal after an election and prohibit placement in the public right-of-way, on utility poles, or where they obstruct sight triangles at intersections. Signs in violation may be removed by code enforcement after notice.
Placing political signs in the public right-of-way, on utility poles, exceeding allowed dimensions, or leaving signs up beyond the post-election removal window can result in removal and citations under Chapter 70.
