Baltimore residents can post No Soliciting signs to deter unwanted visitors. Solicitors who ignore posted signs may be subject to trespassing charges and solicitation code violations.
Baltimore residents may post "No Soliciting" or "No Trespassing" signs on their property. Commercial solicitors who ignore posted no-soliciting signs may be cited for violating the city's solicitation ordinance and may also be subject to criminal trespassing charges under Maryland law. The sign should be clearly visible at the entrance to the property. Religious, political, and nonprofit canvassers may still approach homes with no-soliciting signs in some cases, as their activities receive heightened First Amendment protection. However, all visitors must leave immediately when asked to do so by the property owner.
Ignoring a posted no-soliciting sign may result in a solicitation code violation (fine up to $500) and potentially criminal trespassing charges under Maryland law (up to $1,000 fine and/or 90 days imprisonment for first offense).
