Ohio Industrial Noise and EPA Statewide Standards

Ohio Revised Code Chapter 3704 governs air pollution and Chapter 3767 covers public nuisances, both applying statewide. Industrial noise is generally regulated through local zoning and nuisance actions, but Ohio EPA permits for major facilities can include operational conditions. Ohio courts recognize industrial noise as actionable nuisance under common law statewide. The state has no equivalent of California's general industrial decibel cap; municipalities retain home-rule authority under Article XVIII. Workers exposed to industrial noise are protected by federal OSHA standards adopted by Ohio.
