Fort Worth restricts mobile vending to zoning-approved locations under Sec. 5.406. Vendors must not operate within 50 feet of residential uses. No vending on public streets, sidewalks, or rights-of-way. Vacant lot vending prohibited except fresh market vendors in non-residential districts with a valid certificate. Downtown pushcarts assigned to specific slot locations.
Fort Worth Zoning Ordinance Section 5.406 establishes geographic restrictions for mobile vending. Mobile vending units may only operate in locations allowed by the zoning ordinance and must maintain a minimum 50-foot separation from any residential use. No mobile vending unit may sell merchandise or serve food on any public street, sidewalk, or other public right-of-way, with a limited exception for fresh market mobile vendors operating under Chapter 22 (Motor Vehicles and Traffic). No mobile vending unit may operate on a vacant lot, except that a fresh market mobile vendor may operate on a vacant lot in a non-residential zoning district with a valid Vendor Certificate of Occupancy; vending on residentially zoned vacant lots is prohibited entirely. Downtown pushcart vendors receive slot permits for specific designated locations, and all slot permits are location-specific. Section 16-172 establishes additional permit requirements for all pushcarts. Mobile vendor food courts have separate provisions under Sec. 5.406 allowing multiple vendors at a single approved location.
Vending in a prohibited location: citation and fine up to $500. Operating within 50 feet of residential use: violation of Sec. 5.406. Vending on public right-of-way without authorization: removal and citation.
