If sidewalls are below 48 inches or steps are fixed, a separate compliant barrier is required. Pool depth over 24 inches triggers the rules regardless of whether the pool is in-ground, above-ground, or inflatable. Building permits may be required by local code officials enforcing the state-adopted code.
