As of March 1, 2025, the Board of County Commissioners dissolved the exclusive Waste Pro franchise. Unincorporated Santa Rosa County residents now choose their own garbage hauler and arrange service directly. There is no single county-wide pickup day; your schedule is set by the provider you hire.
On February 3, 2025 commissioners voted to dissolve the Solid Waste Franchise Agreement effective March 1, 2025, ending Waste Pro of Florida's exclusive right to collect residential waste in the unincorporated county. Residents now select a provider — Waste Pro, Adam's Sanitation, J&L Garbage, PU Sanitation or others — and must arrange collection independently. Because collection is deregulated, pickup days, cart type and service terms come from your chosen hauler, not the county. Residents of the City of Gulf Breeze, City of Milton and Town of Jay keep their existing municipally managed service.
No county pickup-day citation; failure to keep refuse controlled is enforced as a trash/debris nuisance under Chapter 14.
