Yavapai County Ordinance 1997-1 (Curfew Hours Ordinance) establishes a juvenile curfew in unincorporated areas, enforced by the Sheriff. Cities including Cottonwood, Prescott, Sedona, and Prescott Valley have their own city curfew ordinances inside city limits.
Yavapai County adopted Ordinance 1997-1 (Curfew Hours Ordinance) in 1997 to establish a juvenile curfew in unincorporated portions of the county. The ordinance prohibits minors from being in public places during specified late-night and early-morning hours unless within an enumerated exception. Standard Arizona exceptions apply: accompanied by parent or guardian, traveling in a motor vehicle, working or commuting, on an emergency errand, exercising First Amendment rights, married, in the military, or on the minor's own residence. The Sheriff enforces in unincorporated areas; cases are referred to Yavapai County Juvenile Court under ARS Title 8. Each city sets its own curfew β Cottonwood uses 10:00 p.m. for minors under 16 and midnight for ages 16-17.
Curfew violations are typically petty offenses handled through Yavapai County Juvenile Court. First contacts are usually warnings with parental notification; repeat violations can result in citations against both the minor and the parent or guardian.
