Los Angeles prohibits anyone under 18 from being in public places between 10:00 PM and sunrise the following day, unless accompanied by a parent or guardian, traveling to/from work, or attending an authorized event. The daytime truancy curfew (LAMC 45.04) also restricts minors during school hours.
LAMC Section 45.03 makes it unlawful for any minor under 18 to be present in any public place between 10:00 PM and sunrise the following day. The rule applies seven nights a week without a wider weekend window. Exceptions cover minors accompanied by a parent or guardian, on errands at parental direction, traveling directly to or from lawful employment, attending school or religious events, emancipated, responding to emergencies, or in interstate travel.
LAMC Section 45.04 separately establishes a daytime truancy curfew prohibiting compulsory-education minors from public places between 8:30 AM and 1:30 PM on school days. LAPD may detain violators and release them to a parent or curfew diversion program.
Violations are infractions. First offenses typically draw a written warning and parental notification. Subsequent offenses carry fines starting at $250 and may include mandatory hearings or diversion through Los Angeles County Probation.
