Redmond has no municipal juvenile curfew ordinance, and Washington State imposes no statewide youth curfew. The city relies on state truancy law RCW 28A.225 and general parental responsibility.
The City of Redmond does not maintain a municipal juvenile curfew ordinance restricting minors from being in public places during nighttime hours. Unlike some Washington cities that have enacted youth curfews (many of which have faced constitutional challenges under state court rulings), Redmond relies on a combination of state laws and parental responsibility to address youth issues. Relevant state laws include: RCW 28A.225 (Becca Bill) which mandates school attendance and truancy enforcement for school-age children during school hours; RCW 66.44.270 which prohibits minors from possessing or consuming alcohol regardless of time; RCW 9A.76.140 rendering criminal aid to minors in violation of court orders. Redmond Police Department responds to reports of youth in public places at night if there are articulable concerns about safety, suspected criminal activity, or welfare checks. Park curfews under RMC 12.20 apply to all park users (see park curfew subcategory). Parents and guardians retain primary responsibility for supervising minor children. Youth encountering police are not subject to arrest solely for being in public at night absent other violations.
No municipal violation for juvenile presence in public absent other criminal conduct. Truancy is handled through the school district under RCW 28A.225.
