Suffolk County has no countywide gas leaf blower ban, but several East End villages and towns including Southampton Village, East Hampton Village, and Sag Harbor restrict gas-powered blowers seasonally to address noise and air quality concerns.
There is no Suffolk County Code chapter banning gas leaf blowers countywide. Regulation occurs at the town and village level. Southampton Village and East Hampton Village ban gas leaf blowers from May 20 through September 20 each year, with year-round limits on hours and the number of units. Sag Harbor follows a similar summer ban. Outside these jurisdictions, blowers fall under the general noise rules of Ch. 252 of the County Code and applicable town noise ordinances. Battery-electric blowers are exempt and increasingly encouraged.
Village code enforcement issues warnings followed by tickets ranging from 250 to 1000 dollars per violation, with escalating fines for repeat offenders and possible equipment confiscation.
