Paramus prohibits altering grades, slopes, or drainage facilities on a lot without site plan approval, and may require topographical maps, neighbor notice, and Borough Engineer review.
Under the Paramus Drainage and Related Environmental Protection Ordinance (Chapter 213) and related provisions, no person may alter grades, slopes, or drainage facilities on a lot without first obtaining site plan approval. Minor alterations for maintenance, repairs, or correction of drainage problems determined by the Borough Engineer are exempt. The Borough Engineer may require an existing topographical map, a proposed grading and drainage plan, and certified-mail notice to abutting property owners when substantial drainage or erosion concerns exist. Drainage easements granted to the Borough must be at least 15 feet wide for access to storm sewer pipes.
Unauthorized grading or drainage alteration may trigger stop-work orders, restoration mandates, and Borough Code fines.
