Corner lots in Isleton must keep a sight-distance triangle clear of fences, hedges, and other obstructions higher than about 3 feet. Typical triangle legs are 25 feet along each street from the corner of the intersection.
To protect traffic safety at intersections including the SR-160 and Main Street corners in the Historic District, Isleton enforces a sight-distance triangle on corner lots. Within the triangle, measured roughly 25 feet along each curb line from the point of intersection of the two streets, no fence, wall, hedge, sign, or other visual obstruction taller than approximately 3 feet (36 to 42 inches) is permitted. Tree canopy must be raised to at least 8 feet above grade within the triangle. Driveway approaches have a similar clear-zone rule of approximately 10 feet to either side of the driveway. These distances track Sacramento County standards and the Caltrans Highway Design Manual approach used on state route corridors. Violations can be abated as a safety hazard with minimal notice.
A fence or hedge that blocks the sight triangle can be ordered trimmed or removed within a short abatement window. Refusal to comply may result in a nuisance citation starting at 100 dollars plus city abatement at owner cost.
