San Joaquin County Development Title 9, Chapter 9-1022 (Fencing and Screening) governs fence heights in unincorporated areas. Open fences up to 7 feet are permitted in required front yards if they use open materials and don't obstruct sightlines. Security fencing may add 2 more feet.
SJC Development Title 9, Division 10, Chapter 9-1022 sets fencing standards for all zones in unincorporated San Joaquin County (updated December 2022). An open fence up to 7 feet may be installed in any required front yard if constructed of open material and not obstructing vehicle sightlines. The 7-foot limit may be waived for court sport fencing in side or rear yards using open fencing. Security fencing not exceeding 2 feet may be added on top of any permitted fence. Electrified security fences may extend 2 feet beyond the protective barrier up to an overall maximum of 10 feet. Fences in required yards must comply with height limits for those yard types; fences outside required yards may not exceed accessory building height limits.
